About Mara

I share my world with my partner Dries, our two amazing teenage children Tanya and Carel and eight beautiful felines. We live on a small holding just outside Pretoria (Tshwane), the capital of South Africa and it is like having the best of both worlds. We are blessed with the peace and quiet, the abundance of trees, birds and even some wildlife just a stone's throw away from the hustle and bustle and convenience of city life.

My life has been a tapestry of exciting experiences. In the seventies I went from selling all my belongings to travel the big wide world, to working on a kibbutz during the war, riding through this beautiful country on a motorbike, to some failed attempts to dive for abalone, diamonds and gold on a Spanish ship.

But eventually the novelty of youth wore off, reality caught up with me and soon I found myself doing all the things I thought I should be doing to live up to the expectations of society.

Most of my working life I spent as a bean counter in the finance world where cash flows, financial statements, balance sheets and tally slips were the name of my game.

Then a few years ago, I did something completely out of character and became a Personal Assistant in the field of developing housing policy in government. Although I was not "unhappy" in what I was doing, I could not shake off that nagging feeling that life was passing me by and that I could be so much more.

I now understand that my yearning for the exciting experiences of my earlier years - and my decision to make such a drastic change in my career - amounted to attempts to fill a void by searching for a more meaningful life.

When the opportunity of Life Coaching came my way, I knew instinctively that this was what I have been waiting for all my life. My heart was telling me that I wanted to make a difference in this world and Life Coaching presented me with that golden opportunity to do just that.

But getting that energy in motion to get me to my goal of becoming a Life Coach was not that easy, for I was caught up in the comfort zone of mediocrity and my attempt to move from my current reality came with much discomfort and fear. All I wanted to do was to go back to the way things were - back to the place where I felt comfortable and safe, albeit un-stimulated!

So, I put my money where my mouth is and I hired myself a Life Coach. Soon, I was focused and inspired and I had clear milestones in place of how and when I was going to get to where I wanted to be. I became aware of how limited I was by my beliefs and the distractions and concepts of myself. But, before I knew it, I was on the fast track to achieving my goal and the rest, as they say, is history.

Life Coaching changed my life to living a life with purpose and meaning.

I now wake up in the morning with a song in my heart and I am so inspired by the fact that I have yet another fantastic opportunity to make a difference in the life of another and that I have a shared interest in that person finding their purpose, living their dreams and reaching their full potential.

I love life: I love sunshine, flowers, trees, mountains, beaches and the sea. I cannot live without being surrounded by people and colour and yes, I cannot live without cats. I love to read, contemplate life; I love the sound of V-8 cars and V-twin motor bikes. I am besotted by the moon and crystals, fascinated by life, the meaning of it, the why, the how, the wonder and the perfect order and timing of the universe. I am intriqued with planets and stars and I am truly grateful for life on earth at a time of such rapid spiritual evolution and awakening of the human race.

Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place
where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city
of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.
You cannot get there by bus, only by hard work, risking and by not
quite knowing what you are doing. What you will discover
will be wonderful: yourself."
